Should I Google my Symptoms?

Yes – Of course!

If your Lamborghini or Porsche has a problem, do you take it to the local garage, knowing nothing about the problem, hand over the keys and say ‘Fix it’.

Even if you yourself know nothing about cars, you don’t want to hand over your only, irreplaceable vehicle to a stranger without having some idea of what is going on.

A better question is always ‘What is the commonest cause of xxx?’ rather than ‘What causes xxx?’. An early lesson in medical diagnosis states ‘Common things occur commonly’,.

Don’t think ‘It’s not that bad, I can live with it’. Because small problems that don’t get better quickly, can cause problems down the line. Whatever your symptoms, there is a reason you feel the way you do and you are the best person to find out what is going on. Your doctor may not know, it doesn’t mean they are holding out on you. Medicine is limited and can’t answer every question.

Nonetheless, doctors see themselves as Superheroes, with Superpowers that allow them to save lives. They may not always be keen to spend time and resources fixing small things
